We are coming towards the end of October and Halloween is just right around the corner. I usually spend this week trying to find songs I feel are most “Halloweeny” but this year I decided to do something different. I decided this year that instead of dropping a thriller remix, or something crazy dark and hard that I’d go back to my roots. Disco, tech, funk, and electro. BUT LOTS OF DISCO!!!!!
GlowTape! – October Top 10 (in no particular order)
1. Sean Biddle – Make Some Noise – This track is just a stellar piece of pure disco house funk! Its filter happy vocals and disco looping on a banging 4-to-the-floor beat. In other words. Fire!
2. James Curd – The Wills and the Wonts (Enzo Ponzio Remix) – I love the original of this too, but Enzo Ponzio just takes this song sonically to a different realm. His choice of using dark synths with 80’s bells and stabs with that funky vocal just make me want to dance the night away!
3. Flygang – Grip My Hips – Alright, Flygang is probably my favorite producer right now, and I can find anything about him(her?). This track is just amazingly fun disco house fantastica with a splash of old school rave! Great use of the chorus effect on the vocals.
4. Rebotini – The Swamp Waltz (Steve Moore Remix) – I don’t know how much I can say about Steve Moore. Then man is on an entirely different planet. If you have never heard of this guy before then it might be time to stop hunting the top 10’s of beatport and get familiar with the good stuff. By far one of my favorite tracks of the year.
5. Man & Man -Le Cabaret Hologramme (Version 2) – This one is a tribal monster. With one of the illest piano licks I’ve heard on a track in a while.
6. DJ Funkso – Retroflazz – Another disco house banger. A bit more traditional in sound and technique but still a foot stomper!
7. High Caliber – Pistol Whip (Paul Anthony & ZXX Remix) – This is just vocoder funky ass electro madness. I love the vocal it sends me right back to ‘87!
8. Hatiras – Digital Doom 2010 – Canadian electro mad man, Hatiras, just released a new Disco influenced EP that is amazing. This is my favorite cut off the EP.
9. Anna Miranda – Fame – I love to play this track when I’m transitioning from Opening to peak hour. It’s got this sick disco build up and high hat shuffle but then drops into this crazy tech house track. The future is closer then you think!
10. Shena – Nasty Little Rumor (Faze Action Remix) – First and for most, I love Faze Action. I feel that they can do no wrong. Just so on top of the funk and disco shit. They really deserve a lot more credit then they get. Just amazing, and this remix is no exception. The keytar solo at almost the 4 minute mark is, to put it simply – Sex.
