Carefully combining energetic rock and tech house elements with wildly catchy synth lines and vocals, Boston-based DJ/producer George Vala has emerged as one of New England’s premiere electronic artists. He began his career in production in 1999 by composing music for various video game companies and ad agencies while working his way through college. In 2006 his talents were recognized by Jaw Maran of Living Sound Entertainment and Kentaro Yoshie of Pop Up Sounds. That year he completed seven remixes for EMI Japan, Miles Davis classics: ”Counting on Angels”, ”Run The Voodoo Down feat. Krysta Youngs”, and “Four”, Douzan Yamamoto’s “Utsuroiro” for Suntory Whiskey, and “Here Is Me”, “Take Two”, and “QP Italiante” for Qewpie Japan. The video for his remix of Douzan Yamamoto’s “Utsuroiro” was nominated for Best Music Video in the 2008 Shanghai Film Festival and went on to receive critical acclaim. It is now a permanent installation featured in the lobby of the Tokyo Midtown Project Museum in downtown Tokyo, Japan.
Preferring live performance to studio tans, George took his productions on the road by creating one of Boston’s most elaborate live electronic stage shows with fellow DJ/producer Taki G. The two toured various venues such as Saint, Underbar, and The Middle East Downstairs, under the name Deftchild. Word soon got out that they were doing something very special.
Recently returning to the studio to work with longtime collaborator singer/songwriter Krysta Youngs, George shows no sign of slowing down. His music is invitingly sincere and oddly charming – be sure to check him out!
